The origins of Abandon Agony trace back to early 2023 when guitarist Tobias Järvelä (formerly of Memoria and Dragon Steel) laid the foundation for the band. Drummer Robin Toresson (Memoria, Goddess Cult) soon joined as the second member. A meeting between Tobias and Christoffer Tönnäng about producing a music video for Memoria unexpectedly resulted in Christoffer becoming the band’s second guitarist, further solidifying the lineup.

The search for a bassist ended during a lively evening at one of Trollhättan’s rock bars, where Tobias met Jonathan Wagerland, a bearded Viking with impressive skills on both bass and beer taps. After a successful audition, Jonathan became the fourth member.

Finding the right vocalist took more time. Early inquiries to Johan Hedström (Memoria, Rocket Leg) were declined. However, after exploring other options, the band approached Johan again, and in September 2023, he agreed to join, completing the lineup.

With all members on board, Abandon Agony quickly began recording their debut EP. Remarkably, the band had their first live performance just two weeks after becoming complete, in nearby Vänersborg. From there, they expanded their reach with performances across Trollhättan, Uddevalla, Gothenburg, Örebro, and more.

Their debut single and music video, released on February 9, 2024, marked the start of a year filled with new music. In June 2024, they released their highly anticipated debut EP, Dark Matter, followed by the single The Truth in November. With their intense energy and powerful melodic death metal sound, Abandon Agony has become a rising force in the Swedish metal scene.
